Privacy policy
TrailTaper is built to need almost nothing from you. The plan generators run in your browser, so what you enter never leaves your device. This page explains the little we do collect and why.
Last updated June 28, 2026.
The short version
You can use the hiking and running plan generators without an account, a login, or any sign-up. Everything you type into the tools, your goal date, distance, elevation, pack weight, and the rest, is processed on your own device and is never sent to our servers. The only personal data we ever store is what you choose to send us through the contact form. We do not sell your data, and we do not run advertising at this time.
What we collect
From the plan tools: nothing. The generators are entirely client-side. Your inputs, the plan they produce, and the PDF you download are all created in your browser. We do not receive a copy, we cannot see your numbers, and nothing about your training is transmitted to us.
From the contact form: only what you send. If you write to us, we collect the name, email address, and message you provide. We use that information to read and answer you. It is stored in our database (see third parties below) so we can keep track of the conversation.
Analytics: only if you agree. We can measure how the site is used with Yandex Metrika, but it loads only after you accept analytics in the consent banner. If you decline, or if you never accept, no analytics scripts run. When loaded, it is limited to coarse usage data, not anything you type into the tools.
How we use it
Contact-form details are used to reply to you and to keep a record of correspondence. If we ever turn analytics on, the aggregated figures help us see which pages and tools people find useful so we can improve them. We do not build advertising profiles, and we do not share your details with anyone for marketing.
Third parties
We keep the stack small and name everyone who can touch your data. A few trusted services help us run the site, and each has its own privacy practices.
Cloudflare
Cloudflare hosts and serves the site and provides its content network and security layer. As part of routing requests it processes technical data such as your IP address and request headers, which is standard for any website. Cloudflare also powers Turnstile, the spam check on our contact form, which confirms a human is sending the message. These functions are essential to running the site securely.
Supabase
When you submit the contact form, your name, email, and message are stored in a database hosted by Supabase so we can read and answer you. This is the only place we keep personal data you send us.
Yandex Metrika
Yandex Metrika is the analytics tool we may use to understand site usage. It loads only after you accept analytics cookies, and not before. When loaded it collects coarse usage data such as page views and rough location. It does not receive anything you enter into the plan generators.
Advertising
We do not show ads today. If we add advertising in the future, likely Google AdSense, it would be gated behind the same consent banner, and we would update this policy and the cookie notice before switching it on.
Cookies
We use a small set of cookies and similar storage. Essential storage remembers your consent choice and keeps the site secure, and analytics loads only with your permission. The full breakdown lives in our cookie notice.
Your rights
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the GDPR gives you the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, and request a copy you can take elsewhere. Where we rely on your consent, such as for analytics, you can withdraw it at any time.
If you are a California resident, the CCPA and CPRA give you the right to know what we have collected, to request its deletion, and to opt out of any sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To exercise any of these rights, write to us through the contact page and we will act on your request.
Data retention
Because the tools store nothing on our side, there is nothing to retain from them. Contact messages are kept only as long as we need them to handle your enquiry and any reasonable follow-up, after which they are deleted. You can ask us to delete your message sooner at any time.
Children
TrailTaper is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has sent us information through the contact form, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves, for example if we turn on analytics or add advertising. When we make a meaningful change we will revise the date at the top of this page. We encourage you to check back from time to time.
